00 Study Guide – Module 5 – WHO Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC) (3-2023)
Health records include a range of information that is not about functioning. In this module we introduce you to the other classifications in the World Health Organization’s Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC), more specifically:
- ICHI: the International Classification of Health Interventions;
- ICD-11: The International Classification of Diseases (11th version), which now include the V-codes: A supplementary section for functioning assessment; and
- a range of other internationally accepted classifications.
The benefits of using an accepted international standards are:
- Their development is based on a wide range of expertise.
- Effective knowledge representation and data transfer.
- Allows health personnel and people/patients to communicate using one (technical) language
- Shared terminology supports natural language processing and effective text analytics.
- Globally comparable data can be produced.
In this module you will explore the content of ICHI. This will allow you to successfully complete Assignment 4 (e), the planning of interventions to meet the goals stated in Assignment 4 (d).
Goal
To introduce a range of classifications that complement the ICF.
