Accessibility
What we have done
‘The power of the Web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect.’
Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web.
Consistent with this goal and the recommendations of the World Report on Disability this portal incorporates accessibility features; navigation, colour, fonts and language have been considered in relation to international standards and guidelines.
What you need to do
When designing resources for sharing on this portal authors should consider the needs of people with disabilities. Issues of accessibility must be given clear consideration and any limits acknowledged. Plain language must be used. Guidelines are available from a range of sources, eg:
- W3C Web design and applications: Accessibility
- BBC accessibility standards and guidelines
- Website accessibility for all: A consumer’s guide to the British Standard for Web Accessibility (BS 8878)
