Final Assignment: Applying ICF in your own work situation
The Final Assignment is longitudinally integrated into the whole course. Everything that you learn will be drawn on in this final assignment as you demonstrate your ability to apply the principles and content of the ICF in a manner appropriate to your specific purpose.
The goals of the Final Assignment are to:
- Demonstrate your ability to apply the ICF in practice.
- Utilise the ICF as a catalyst by producing a product that will be useful in your context to enhance a holistic, bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to improve health.
Examples of previous assignments include:
- Develop a short set of clinical codes for a specific purpose (e.g. for monitoring a health condition or comparing outcomes across services).
- Compile a presentation of the ICF for a non-clinical audience (e.g. health administrators, parents of children with disabilities), with arguments about the benefits of using ICF-based data.
- Develop guidelines for a patient population.
- Give a case history of a specific clinical situation.
- Design a data collection tool for a stated purpose.
- Develop a method for introducing the ICF into a health professional qualifying education curriculum.
- Design a curriculum for introducing the ICF as a continuing professional development programme.
- Develop guidelines for interprofessional health interventions of a specific condition/impairment.
- Develop an ICF-based template or guiding principles to be used when developing clinical guidelines.
- Develop and gamify an ICF blended learning course for health professionals in continuing professional development.
- Develop practical concept for a blended intensive study programme on interprofessional education based on ICF and focusing on ICF Dietetics.
- Develop material to support the implementation of ICF in clinical practice.
The assignment must preferably be something you would like to do to make your work and your world a better place. In the process you must demonstrate your mastery of ICF.
This assignment is often the beginning of a larger, ongoing initiative, where change agents (you) use ICF as catalyst for better policies, services, or systems.
Working in teams
You may work on your own or in teams (a maximum of four members). The team must keep record of the exact contribution of each member.
Ethical clearance
If you want to publish the final outcomes of this assignment in future, obtaining ethical approval may be needed if it involves patient records or patient interaction.
Timeline for the Final Assignment
You will have four (4) opportunities to submit and discuss your assignment (in various stages of development) with peers and coaches. It will culminate in a fourth submission with your final presentation during the final week of the course. Referring to the course timetable, please note the actions you must take.
